A woodblock cannot be erased, so I brushed the design onto the block twice before cutting.

The hair and the large dark coat were gouged out in one go; the fine grass blades were cut with a small round gouge.

I pulled five prints. This is the most even of them, still carrying the block’s edge marks in the corner.

Once the knife goes in, there is no eraser.
