“Grapes” Scroll
A freehand scroll. Vines fall from top to bottom, grapes dabbed without outlines in shifting ink, a single bee passing through.
NOTES
Studio notes
The hardest thing about grapes is the white you leave: every berry needs a highlight, and each cluster needs its own density.
I wrote the vines with a seal-script brush — the way a vine coils and turns is really the same problem as writing a character.
Leaves in indigo mixed with ink, joined while still wet, so the edges bleed on their own.
Freehand means deleting everything that is not needed.
